Enter The Animus

Assassin's Creed is a video game franchise, created by Patrice Désilets, Jade Raymond, and Corey May and first released back in 2007. The action-adventure stealth game features historical fiction mixed with real-world past events and figures.

The Assassin's Creed games are centred around the conflict between two clandestine organisations called the Assassins and the Templars. They both hold opposing views on humanity’s future, with the Assassins striving for freedom and the Templars order.

In early games, players took control of a bartender by the name of Desmond Miles – a descendent of a long lineage of legendary Assassins. Abducted by the modern-day Templars, now known as Abstergo (a public mega-corporation), he is forced into a machine called the Animus, allowing him to relive his ancestors’ memories.

Using Desmond's memories, the Templars seek to gain control over the world through the acquisition of various precursor artifacts, known as the Pieces of Eden – the left-over relics of the First Civilisation, Isu. Were they to attain these powerful weapons, humanity would be made placid and subservient.

Assassin’s Creed has catapulted in popularity since captivating audiences with its unique premise and innovative gameplay, and it has since expanded to other forms of media, including films, comic books, and novels.

Assassin's Creed (2016) is an action film based on the video game, starring such Hollywood royalty as Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, and Michael K. Williams.

The film plot expands on the Assassin’s Creed universe and follows Callum Lynch (Fassbender) as he experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar de Nerha, in 15th-century Spain using a more mobile take on the traditional Animus design.
